This is one examples of the vagaries of the internet. One day you have an idea and the next day it falls flat on its face. We need to learn from our mistakes and I have certainly learned to get up and make something of a failed idea.

This could be a travel site and it was intended to be so. Well, it did not fly and I had to change a lot of things about it. I allowed it to change, to adapt, to morph and evolve into something that it is now. It is going to serve another purpose and I am happy with that.

Nothing changes. You would think that life is all about change but for me nothing could be farther from the truth. Nothing changes at all. People don't change. They remain their own stupid self day after day, year after year. I would think that it would be better to kill them off because they would just be using up space, breathing the air, doing the same stupid things that they do every day of their lives. I will be going back to CDO and I don't really know if things will change a bit at all. I feel that nothing is going to be the same again. i would be happy to see some changes in my life. Maybe I should think a little straighter because I am not thinking straight at all now. Why is this? I would like to be able to make changes that will uplift the world. I know that the food we eat is not being grown the way they should be. There are less and less good stuff in the food that we eat.

Can that be changed at all?

Even though I have been devastated by the attack made by my own mind, I am still intact and able to keep my balance. It was a cruel, relentless bombardment by a surrogate that gave no quarter. A few things did happen which could make a difference in the final outcome of this experiment. I enrolled in Helium and I submitted 2 articles right off. Later in the day yesterday I wrote another article and submitted it. I now have 3 pending articles and I hope they make some money for me. A very good development is the realization that came today which simply tells me that I should be a little more careful when writing and I should organize my thoughts and compose my words so that they will convey my thoughts much more efficiently. This might not be much but for me it is a big thing because I have always resisted becoming excellent as though what mattered was talent or genius. Well, I have neither which means that I will have to work harder. This is a crucial piece of information which I have just gleaned from all of this action.

Anyway, here's Cagayan de Oro City with another one: Cagayan de Oro City. My Cebu City site has made pr1, surprise, surprise. Dumaguete is still in the boondocks as far as Google goes but Dumaguete has made some headway. Jai Alexander rocks!

I have made a number of sites and they are all about the places that I have been and know a little bit about. There is nothing special there except it is a chance for me to say a little something about them. One of my sites, Cagayan de Oro City recently found itself on page 4 of the Google search machine. I had been trying hard to get it out of oblivion for many, many years and when it seemed to me that I would never succeed in doing this, voila! there is was on page 4.

One of my earlier efforts was Dumaguete and I have had a measure of success there too, another page 4 entry but it has gone back to a dark hole and I don't know if it is ever coming back to light. I hope that it finds its way up from the black hole it has crawled into.

One surprise was Cebu which suddenly got a pr1. It is a relatively new creation and I did not really think it would get anything significant like a pr1. Check out Cagayan de Oro too.

This site was intended for a travel agency whose owner somehow had other ideas which did not coincide with mine. This was in my early days of trying my hand at webmastering, if ever there was such a word. It was not really such a waste and I am now glad that nothing came of our discussions except for the fact that I carried the name of her agency on these pages for a while. Later, I decided to take down all of her information and transformed this site into what it is today.

November is a good time to travel to Dumaguete. The reason for this is the Annual Fiesta of St. Catherine or as she is lovingly called, Sta. Catalina de Alexandria. Although more than month away, the fiesta is one that the people of Dumaguete prepares for. There will be parades and concerts and other celebrations. Bethel Guest House and Rejoice Hardware and Electrical Supply never fail to celebrate theFiesta with the residents and guests of Dumaguete City.

Buglasan Parade

In Dumaguete City, Philippines, the Buglasan Festival is celebrated every year at around this time. Banners and streamers gaily deck the lamp posts of Dumaguete City announcing the Buglasan Festival and the main activities that make it a must-see affair. The Philippines is well-known for the Festivals and Fiestas that seem to happen all year long and travellers and tourists have come to enjoy these events.

Trying to get to the downtown area yesterday was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The Buglasan Parade was scheduled for the afternoon and participants were lined up on the streets leading up to the downtown area where the parade was going to take place. Large drums on wheels, boys and girls dressed up in costumes that could only be dreamed up by gay designers, streamers and banners decked the streets like a surreal movie scene. Trying to get across to the Boulevard where I wanted to go, as Bethel Guest House was my destination, was near impossible and it was infinitely easier to turn around and retrace my route.

Dumaguete tries to outdo herself every year in putting up the best Buglasan Festival and it is indeed a treat to residents and visitors alike. There might be detractors and critics but who cares? the public wants bread and circuses and there are plenty of those at the Freedom Park. It seems to me that festivals are a part of a community's life. Way back when there was some criticism that Filipinos seem to be spending so much on Fiestas which only last a couple of days while struggling on ginamos the whole year through. A little bit of controversy was raised but nobody cared. Fiestas are fun! Now it seems that one fiesta is not enough. Cities and municipalities start new fiestas and everybody seems to love them. It is a whole new reason to go to another area and enjoy. C'est la vie.

Buglasan Festival starts on Oct. 13, 2006

It is Buglasan time once again and the province of Negros Oriental is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring its success. As in previous years, this celebration has attracted the participation of the municipalities or local government units (LCU's) of Negros Oriental. Display booths will showcase the best that Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City has to offer while parades and presentations will ensure that the population is properly entertained. Since its start seven years ago, the Buglasan has consistently earned the admiration of those who attended it and this year Gov. George Arnaiz promises to make this year's event even more spectucular than the previoius ones, having prepared a hefty budget of Php 4.5 M. It is not difficult to get sponsors and donations for this event considering the great track record of the Buglasan celebrations past.

Perhaps it is appropriate to explain the etymology of this term Buglasan. Buglas is a kind of reed that was greatly abundant in the Province of Negros Oriental prompting it to be the traditional name of the province in times past. This event helps to revive and keep fresh in the minds of people the cultural heritage of Negros Oriental Province.

Travel to Dumaguete

The close proximity of the islands of Cebu and Bohol and the big island of Mindanao to the island of Negros is the main reason why people travel to and from these places very often. It only takes five hours by overnight ferry to arrive in Cebu City. The same can be said when taking the ferry from Dumaguete to Cagayan de Oro which only takes about and hour longer. When the Supercat fast craft was providing service, it would only take three hours to get to Dumaguete from Cebu by way of Bohol. While many students from Mindanao come to Dumaguete to study, many young people from Dumaguete often go to Cebu to study or to find jobs after graduation.

These days, the favorite way to get to Cebu from Dumaguete is by way of a pumpboat in Sibulan which only takes about twenty minutes to make it to Liloan in the town of Santander in the island of Cebu. V-hire or van for hire takes passengers to Cebu City in less than three hours for only Php 120.00 per person. One can also take the buses that ply the southern part of Cebu to the City. One could be in Cebu City less than four hours after leaving Dumaguete.

The Philippines has become a favorite destination of Americans and Europeans who find the Islands to their liking especially because of the low cost of living. Dollars and Euros go a long way in the Philippines due to the exchange rate which favors the stronger currencies of the Dollar and the Euro against the Philippine Peso. This is not to say that this is the only reason for taking up permanent residence here. The many beautiful Dive spots lure the avid diver to come back again and again; white, sandy beaches and the warm tropical sun beckon tourists to stay awhile and enjoy living in an Eden-like location.

The Bell Tower

The Bell Tower of Dumaguete City was built in 1811 to warn the residents of Dumaguete of the arrival of marauding pirates. The Visayas islands were a favorite target of Moro pirates from Jolo who were wont to sack and pillage and take captive women and children to be sold to slavery and kept in servitude with little or no hope of rescue. So feared were these incursions that lookouts were kept to scan the distant horizon for signs of the swift vintas of these raiders. The Bell would then be struck to warn the womenfolk and children to flee to safety while valiant defenders sought to impede the inroad of these pirates into the city.

Nowadays, the Bell Tower stand mute and silent, a reminder to whoever beholds it of more savage times while close by the pious light their votive candles to help carry their prayers and intentions to the heavens.The Cathedral of Dumaguete sits close by adding comfort to all who would seeks its sanctuary and protection.
